Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 3, 2026

Impedo is built to run entirely on your iPhone. This policy explains exactly what data exists, where it lives, and why almost none of it ever leaves your device.

Quick summary

  • We have no server. Impedo never sends any data off your iPhone.
  • We don't know which apps you block — Apple's Screen Time hides that information even from us.
  • We don't sell, share, or monetize your data. No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics.
  • Premium purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your card or any payment details.
  • Place-based blocking uses your location on-device only, to turn blocks on and off. We keep no history of where you've been.

Screen Time

To block apps, Impedo uses Apple's FamilyControls framework. When you choose which apps or categories to block, Apple hands Impedo only an opaque token — an encrypted reference that identifies the selection without revealing which apps it contains. Impedo never sees the name, icon, or content of the apps you selected. That selection is stored only on your device, synced between iPhone and Apple Watch via Apple's App Group — also local.

Schedules, streak, and settings

The schedules you create, your history of blocked attempts, your day streak using the app, and your lock-screen settings are all stored locally on your iPhone. None of it leaves the device, because Impedo has no server to send it to.

Face ID and passcode

If you turn on App Lock, Impedo uses Face ID or your system passcode — via Apple's LocalAuthentication — only to confirm it's you opening the app. Impedo never receives or stores any biometric data; that's handled entirely by iOS.

Notifications

Block start/end notifications, and the Live Activity showing a running block on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, are generated and delivered locally by your iPhone. They never pass through any external server, and Impedo uses no push notifications.

Sensors (steps and motion)

The Insistent Shield feature may use the device's pedometer or accelerometer to confirm a task — walking a few steps, shaking your iPhone. These readings are processed only on-device, in the moment, and are never stored or sent anywhere.

Location (place-based blocking)

The Places feature turns blocking on and off when you arrive at or leave a place you set up yourself. iOS only tells Impedo that you crossed the edge of one of those circles — there's no continuous tracking, we keep no history of where you've been, and no coordinate ever leaves your iPhone. The places you save stay on the device. "Always" access is what lets blocking work with the app closed; with "While Using the App", Impedo can only check your position while it's open. You can revoke access at any time in Settings, and everything else in the app keeps working.

Screen Time report

The Report tab shows Screen Time figures that come from iOS itself. They're drawn by an isolated Apple extension (DeviceActivityReport) that runs outside the app's process: Impedo displays the result on screen but never receives the numbers themselves. There is no way for the app to read, store, or send that data — Apple blocks it by design.

Shortcuts, Siri, and Focus modes

Impedo's shortcuts, Siri commands, and Focus Filter run local actions — start or stop a block, turn a schedule on. When you talk to Siri, speech recognition is Apple's and follows Apple's privacy policy; Impedo only receives the already-interpreted action, never the audio.

Purchases (Impedo Premium)

In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Impedo only receives confirmation that a purchase was made — it never sees your card number, billing details, or any payment information.

Sharing with third parties

Impedo does not share, sell, or transmit any data to third parties. We don't use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.

Your data, your hands

Since everything stays on the device, deleting the app deletes all of Impedo's data. There's no account, login, or cloud backup controlled by us.

Children

Impedo isn't directed at children under 13, and it doesn't collect data from anyone — so that distinction doesn't change how the app works.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes — for example, if a future feature starts using the network — we'll update this page and the date at the top.
